Next week, August 12, millions of people across Europe will witness something many have waited decades to see.
A total solar eclipse.
It will be the first total eclipse visible from western Europe since 1999.
The Moon’s shadow will race across Greenland, Iceland and northern Spain before the eclipsed Sun sinks dramatically into the western horizon over the Iberian Peninsula.
For Spain, it’s an especially rare spectacle.
The eclipse arrives at sunset, meaning the blackened Sun will hang just above mountains, forests and city skylines as daylight suddenly disappears.

⚛️ A Metal Born Inside Hiroshima
Scientists examining tiny glass particles formed during the Hiroshima atomic explosion have identified a previously unknown metal alloy never before seen in nature.
The microscopic grain formed during the unimaginable temperatures and pressures created by the nuclear blast on August 6, 1945.
Researchers say the alloy could only have formed during an incredibly brief moment when buildings, vehicles, soil and metal were simultaneously vaporized before cooling almost instantly.
Nature—and humanity—occasionally create conditions impossible to reproduce anywhere else.
🌋 Guatemala’s Volcano Refuses to Calm Down
Fuego Volcano continues one of its most energetic eruptions of the year.
Ash columns have climbed 5 to 6 kilometers into the atmosphere while dangerous pyroclastic flows race down multiple ravines.
Authorities have issued Guatemala’s second-highest emergency alert, restricting access to the volcano and urging nearby communities to remain ready for evacuation.
Fuego remains one of the world’s most consistently active volcanoes...
and one of its most dangerous.
