Residents of Santa Cruz, California looked up this week and saw one of the rarest cloud formations on Earth.
Asperitas clouds.
Their chaotic, wave-like underside looks almost like a rough sea suspended upside down in the sky.
Even lifelong cloud watchers admitted they’d never seen anything quite like it.
Sometimes the atmosphere decides to become an artist.

🌌 The Sky Glowed Twice
A photographer in eastern France captured something extraordinary.
Green and red airglow rippling across the night sky simultaneously.
The two colors came from different layers of Earth’s upper atmosphere, illuminated by the same atmospheric gravity wave as it propagated toward space.
