There's a 120-acre patch of woods behind my house near the river with a creek where kids have made 4-wheeler trails, and we often hike, and have even camped up there during the pandemic. Went to check things out last weekend following a recent tornado plus some straight-line winds we had that tore off some roofs, brought down power lines, and caused local outages.
Never would have imagined the incredible number of huge trees down everywhere - the woods are demolished, completely destroyed and unusable for any purpose - would have been crushed flat had we been camping in our usual waterfront spot.
Guess it doesn't matter anyway - the property has been sold and will be cleared for new construction with waterfront lots selling for as much as a cool $750,000. Guess it will be good for our property values, but I am mourning the loss of 'our' woods, both from development and destruction.
