LOL - Apple is talking about camera covers - you should take off a camera cover before you close your laptop or you could risk damaging the display - has to do with the thickness of the cover and the amount of clearance when you close your laptop. As for tape, you'd just want to make sure of what sort of adhesive residue the tape might be leaving on the camera lens.
